As the calendar starts to turn to July, Marble Falls Independent School District athletic director and head football coach Keri Timmerman reflected back on a busy start to the summer.

He and his coaches have been on campus Monday-Thursday mornings for workouts as part of Marble Falls Forge ’24, the department’s strength and conditioning program. Timmerman has demonstrated how each drill should be performed and corrects to ensure athletes are getting the most out of each rep.

The department will take a week off July 1-5 and return July 8 for the final two weeks of the program.

Though Marble Falls Forge ’24 ends, the coaches begin a busy week July 21.

They’ll attend the Texas High School Coaches Association Convention and Coaching School July 21-23 and meet as a staff July 24-25.

The Mustang football program will conduct its fall camp for Kindergarteners through ninth-graders July 29-Aug. 1.

Then Timmerman and the coaches will conduct the first football practice of fall training camp at midnight Monday, Aug. 5.

With only eight Forge days remaining, coaches are emphasizing the importance of making every minute count. Coaches of all sports have been attending and can be heard encouraging and correcting. They are helping every athlete maximize their time by encouraging them to commit to a perfect rep as quickly as possible.

The cohesiveness on the coaching staff is apparent during drills on the turf at Mustang Stadium. Everyone is committed to ensuring every athlete’s physical, mental and emotional well-being is ready for the challenges that come with playing sports.

“We’re excited about all of our coaches,” Timmerman said. “We have people with collegiate experience or have been around college programs. We have a lot of coaches with a winning background. Everyone is coming on board excited.”

He noted the coaches have spent time with all ages of athletes in schools, including at middle schools. That illustrates their ability to develop relationships with athletes of various levels of ability and knowledge of a sport. At the middle school, some may be new to a sport or played pickup games with little proper instruction. One big goal is to keep it fun so they want to continue playing.

That also is a big part of growing a program.

Meanwhile, high school athletes have played a while and know the ins and outs of practices, preparation and the competition. Timmerman pointed out they want success and want coaches who will show them the way.

“We’re really happy with our kids’ reactions with our new coaches,” he said. “That’s been great.”

The staff is looking to hire a girls middle school coach and a baseball and football coach.
